A mosaic made of many small pictures
Download version 188.8.131.52 released on 12.05.2014. This requires at least Windows 7 SP1. For an operating system before Windows 8, if you aren't current with all the updates, you might have to first install Microsoft's .Net 4.5 from here.
To use the program, simply run the downloaded file.
Mosaic lets you create a mosaic of many small pictures.
Mosaic was created to help make the "Worlds Asunder" card game. It's a useful tool for card game developers.
For more features read History of changes.
On Windows 7, when scrolling up (from the scrollbar), some text is overlapped. Also, the node expanding and collapsing are slow and flickery. This is a bug in the operating system (it occurs when the "SmoothingMode" of a "Graphics" object is not "Antialias" or "HighQuality", for custom drawn list-boxes).
There is a small bug (in the operating system) with the outlined text, particularly the letters "M" and "W". When the thickness of the outline is increased, some lines become visible, though they should not be there. These artifacts get smaller when the size of the font is increased. The artifacts appear only for some fonts (like Verdana), but not for others (like Candara, Georgia and Trebuchet MS).
Added a menu to clip the directives and lore of the matching cells.
Drag-and-drop for cells doesn't switch them anymore, it moves all the cells in between the source and destination cells.
Added the following text areas: "Scenarios", "Numerics", "Faction".
Use "Ctrl + Drag" a cell (with a picture) on another cell to copy the text (without the linked search filters) from the dragged cell.
Use "Ctrl + Alt + Drag" a cell (with a picture) on another cell to copy the text (including the linked search filters) from the dragged cell.
Use "Shift + Drag" a cell (with a picture) on another cell (with a picture) to exchange their picture files.
Added a comment field for mosaic cells.
The lore may be exported or not.
Added menu operations to copy mosaic cell information to the clipboard.
Added padding for the text boxes. The padding is the spacing between the text and the margins of the text boxes.
Files which have the ".mos" extension can be sent as command line parameters, to be loaded on the program's start.
A new setting was added for the search filters to do matching in the linked search filters of the mosaic cells.
The mosaic cells which are matching the current search filter may be the target of some operations: they may be either cleared or have their pictures replaced with a single picture.
Added zoom for the exported text.
The general colors are used for all forms.
Mosaic cells linked to a child of the currently focused search filter is rendered without a fade color.
The following states are possible after a search filter is applied to a mosaic cell:
There are now three fade colors.
Added a contextual menu for mosaic cells which lets you focus the first linked search filter.
The text has outline.
Each mosaic cell has a property which if true specifies that the cell's file name refers a picture which may be printed. A global export setting specifies the picture used for all the cells with non-printable pictures, when the mosaic is exported with the "Export printable pictures" menu.
When designing a card game and the pictures used in the mosaic by the game designer can't be the made public, set this property to false for all cells, and as the game specific pictures become available set this to true; export the mosaic with the "Export printable pictures" menu.
Fixed a bug which didn't allow to save new mosaics.
In picture preview mode, you can delete the picture file of the currently previewed cell.
Exported pictures can have a delimiter line between cells, so that they can be cut precisely.
In picture preview mode, you can link the currently previewed cell to the currently focused search filter. You can also delete the link between them.
Search filters can be searched by a partial name or comment. The (next) found match is focused.
Mosaic cells can now be linked to search filters, just drag-and-drop them. Cells are always displayed as search matches for all the linked search filter.
Added a tooltip for the mosaic cells.
Added a tooltip for the search filter tree nodes.
Added a feature to copy the entire search filters tree to the clipboard.
Added a search filters tree organizer. The mosaic cells which contain no search match are rendered in a faded manner, so that the cells which contain a search match stand out.
When the text is too small to be displayed on pictures, a marker is displayed instead.
Added a progress bar for lengthy operations.
Added a function to export the mosaic for a print test, only with black and white colors and no pictures.
The mosaic cell spacing and frame thickness are in fractions of the smallest cell side.
Added mosaic cell inner margins so that the pictures could be drawn anywhere inside cells.
Added the "Edition" mosaic setting. If it's not empty, it (and the mosaic cell's position) is automatically added at the end of the text from the "Identifier" text-box.
The mosaic cells may contain the following text boxes: attributes, directive, lore and identifier.
The margins of the text boxes are now in fractions of the smallest cell side.
The text from the text boxes can be displayed localized in the language specified in the mosaic settings.
The mosaic frame has variable thickness and translucency.
If the picture files are not found at their original location, they are searched in the same directory as the mosaic file.
The text boxes of the mosaic cells have a maximum width.
The mosaic cells may contain the following text boxes: attributes and lore.
Added settings (number of columns and rows) to export a mosaic as several smaller mosaics, that is, each exported picture contains a number of pictures organized as a part of the bigger mosaic.
Fixed some bugs.
The pictures can be previewed with the keyboard: "Right" / "Up" / "Space" for the next picture, "Left" / "Down" for the previous picture. A preview starts from the last previewed picture (like the one previewed with a middle click).
When picture files are dropped on the program's main window, a query dialog is displayed if a mosaic cell already shows the same picture file.
Middle-click on a picture shows the picture preview form.
Picture files can be renamed.
Picture files can be copied to another directory.
Added some small features and fixed some bugs.
Added picture cache.
First public release of Mosaic: version 1 on 12 July 2007.
